I’m so excited to have a new free pattern to share with you here on my blog!
Lately I’m obsessed with the bobble stitch, especially for home decor and things with practical uses (like hot pads). I love the texture created by using the bobble stitch, and I think it just looks so pretty, so I’ve been thinking up projects I can incorporate this stitch into.
One of the projects I’ve been wanting to make for my home is hot pads – somehow, I don’t have any. I have 7 oven mitts. No hot pads. What a perfect excuse to pick up my Sugar’n Cream yarn and design a jumbo hot pad with rows of bobbles!
This project is beginner friendly and took me about an hour (even with distractions, thanks Netflix) to complete. It’s worked in the round and is a great project for beginners to get comfortable with crocheting in the round.

- Size H/8 – 5.00 mm crochet hook
- 1 skein Lily Sugar’n Cream Super Size Cotton Yarn
- Scissors
- Yarn needle (optional)
Gauge:
20 stitches and 26 rows = 4×4 inches
Abbreviations (US):
- ch = chain
- dc = double crochet

Pattern:
Note: For the bobble stitches below, I used 5 stitches to make up the bobbles.
Ch 5. Join using sl st.
Round 1: Ch 3. The top st of this chain will be used as a ch 1 space below. The remaining 2 sts will be counted as the 1st dc of the round. *Dc in ring, ch 1*. Repeat * until you have 10 ch 1 spaces and 20 sts. Sl st into top of ch 2 (or alternatively, middle of ch 3).
Round 2: Ch 2. *Bobble st in 1st ch 1 space, ch 2, dc in next st*. Repeat * until last ch 1 space. Bobble st, ch 2, sl st into top of ch 2.
Round 3: Ch 2. Dc all sts until last ch. Sk last ch. Sl st into top of ch 2. (39 sts)
Round 4: Ch 3 (see note in Round 1). *Dc in next st, ch 1, dc in next st*. Repeat * until the end of the round. Sl st into top of ch 2 (middle of ch 3).
Round 5: Ch 2. *Dc in next st, bobble in 1st ch 1 space, ch 1, dc in next st, skip next dc, bobble in next ch 1 space*. Repeat * until last ch 1 space. Sl st into top of ch 2.
Round 6: Ch 2. Dc in all sts (67 sts) until last st of round. Sl st into top of ch 2.
Tie yarn off & weave in ends.
