One of my favorite crochet stitches is the bobble stitch. It’s a great stitch to know because there are so many fun patterns that incorporate bobbles (including several of my own patterns!).
There are a few different ways to make bobbles. A lot of patterns use bobbles made up of 5 or 6 double crochet stitches crocheted together in one stitch (so in a pattern, this might look something like: dc5tog in next st). I love double crochet bobbles! But I also love TREBLE crochet bobbles. They’re a little rounder than double crochet bobbles (in my opinion) because the height of the treble crochet stitch helps the bobbles poof in the middle of the stitch more. This is especially true if you use a short stitch like single crochet next to a bobble.
For this tutorial, you will need yarn and a crochet hook. I used one of my favorite yarns, Lily Sugar N Cream, and an H – 8.00mm crochet hook. You can use any yarn weight or hook size to make bobbles.
Materials Needed:
- Crochet Hook (I use these from Amazon β theyβre amazing!) β size H 8.00mm
- Yarn (I used Lily Sugar n Cream)
Treble (Triple) Bobble Stitch:
Chain 11 (or any odd number of stitches). Note: I like to use an odd number because I prefer to have alternating stitches, for example: sc, bobble, sc, bobble, sc. I also think it is a best practice for your row to begin and end with a non-bobble stitch or two to keep edges straight.
Row 1: Double crochet (DC) in the 4th stitch from the hook. Ch 2, turn.
Row 2: DC in the 2nd stitch of the row. The treble bobble stitch will go in the 3rd stitch of the row.
To make a treble bobble stitch: Yarn over twice, and insert hook into next stitch.
Yarn over and pull through the first two loops on the hook.
Yarn over and pull through the next 2 loops on hook.
There should be two loops left on your hook. To make a treble crochet, you would yarn over and pull through the remaining two loops on the hook. But since we are making a treble bobble stitch, we will make 4 more treble crochet stitches all in the same stitch, then yarn over and pull through all the loops on your hook at once (tc5tog).
Repeat the steps above in the same stitch a total of 5 times. Do not pull through the remaining loops until there are 6 loops on the hook.
Yarn over, pull through all loops on hook.
Ta-da! Treble bobble stitch complete.
