This free crochet pattern transforms your goose into the cutest little black cat, ready for both Fall and Halloween trick or treaters. Materials Needed:
- Size 5.0 mm crochet hook (I use these and these glitter hooks – they’re awesome!)
- 1 skein (198g / 7 oz, 333 meters / 364 yards) of Redheart Super Saver in black
- Fiber Fill
- Scissors
- Yarn needle
Finished Measurements:
- Dress Length: about 11″
- Dress Width: about 13″ at bottom, 9.5″ middle, and 4″ at neck
- Tail: about 5.5″ length
- Hat Length: 4″
- Hat Width: 6″
- Hat Ties: 8″
- Ears: about 2″ tall, about 2″ width at base
- Cape Width: about 12.5″ at widest, 4″ at neck
- Note: Outfit designed to fit 23″ porch goose.
Gauge:
- 2″ x 2″: 6 sc sts x 8 rows
- 4″ x 4″: 12 dc sts x 8 rows
- 4″ x 4″: 12 hdc sts x 10.5 rows
- You may have to go up or down a hook size to obtain finished measurements. I recommend maintaining semi-loose/medium tension throughout.

- sk = skip
- sc = single crochet
- sc2tog = single crochet two stitches together
- dc = double crochet

Cat Dress:
Note: ch 2 counts as a st.
With black, ch 30, slst into 1st ch to join.
Round 1: ch 2, dc in each st around, slst into top of ch 2. (30)
Round 2: ch 2, dc in each st around, slst into top of ch 2. (30)
Round 3: ch 2, dc, 2dc in next st. (Dc 2, 2dc in next st), rep () around, slst into top of ch 2. (40)
Round 4: ch 2, dc in each st around, slst into top of ch 2. (40)
Round 5: ch 2, dc 2, 2dc in next st. (Dc 3, 2dc in next st), rep () around, slst into top of ch 2. (50)
Round 6: ch 2, dc in each st around, slst into top of ch 2. (50)
Round 7: ch 2, dc 3, 2dc in next st. (Dc 4, 2dc in next st), rep () around, slst into top of ch 2. (60)
Round 8-10: ch 2, dc in each st around, slst into top of ch 2. (60)
Round 11: ch 2, dc 4, 2dc in next st. (Dc 5, 2dc in next st), rep () around, slst into top of ch 2. (70)
Round 12-14: ch 2, dc in each st around, slst into top of ch 2. (70)
Round 15: ch 2, dc 5, 2dc in next st. (Dc 6, 2dc in next st), rep () around, slst into top of ch 2. (80)
Round 16-20: ch 2, dc in each st around, slst into top of ch 2. (80)
Round 21: scallop edge row – (Sk 2, 5dc in next st, sk 2, slst), rep () around. Slst last 2, slst to join. Tie off, weave in ends.
Tail:
Note: ch 1 counts as a st.
With black, ch 8, slst into 1st ch to join.
Round 1: ch 1, sc in each ch, slst into ch 1. (8)
Rounds 2-22: ch 1, sc around, slst into ch 1. (8)
Round 23: ch 1, sc2tog to last st, sc, slst into ch 1. (5)
Tie off yarn, cinch remaining sts closed. Weave in ends.
Sew tail to the bottom of the back of the cat dress. Optional, fill tail with fiber fill.
Hat:
Note: ch 1 does not count as a stitch.
With black, make a magic ring.
Round 1: In ring, ch 1, 10 sc, slst into ch 1 to join. (10)
Round 2: ch 1, 2 sc in each st around, slst into ch 1. (20)
Round 3: ch 1, sc around, slst into ch 1. (20)
Round 4: ch 1, (sc, 2sc in next st), rep () around, slst into ch 1. (30)
Round 5: ch 1, sc around, slst into ch 1. (30)
-Switch to rows-
Row 6: ch 1, sc 20, ch 1, turn. (20) This row is the set up for the back of the hood. The 10 stitch gap is the front of the hood.
Row 7: sc in each st across, ch 1, turn (20)
Row 8: sk 1st sc, sc across to last 2, sc2tog, ch 1, turn (18)
Row 9-13: sc across, ch 1, turn (18)
Row 14: sc across, ch 1. (18)
Do not turn; instead, ch 30, tie off. Insert hook into the other edge corner, ch 30, tie off.
Ears:
Make 2.
With black, ch 9.
Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each ch across, ch 1, turn. (8)
Row 2-3: sc in each st across, ch 1, turn. (8)
Row 4: sc2tog, sc in next 4, sc2tog, ch 1, turn. (6)
Row 5: sc in each st across, ch 1, turn. (6)
Row 6: sc2tog, sc in next 2, sc2tog, ch 1, turn. (4)
Row 7: sc in each st across, ch 1, turn. (4)
Row 8: sc2tog, sc2tog, ch 1, turn. (2)
Row 9: sc2tog. (1)
Tie off yarn, weave in ends.
Sew ears to either side of hat, bending the bottom row into a slight C shape.
