Free Crochet Pattern: Bow Granny Square with Ruffle Border

I posted a TikTok series on this pattern almost a year ago and have been procrastinating getting the pattern written. 😅 Oops!

I think this pattern is so cute for baby blankets, coquette aesthetic lovers, teenage girls, etc., etc. I love the extraness of the ruffle – it really takes the project to the next level in my opinion!

Pattern:

To make the bow:

With color A (pink), make a slip knot.

Round 1 (setup round): Chain 12. Insert hook into 1st ch, slst to join. Chain 12. Insert hook back into the middle slst, slst to join. Do not ch.

Round 2 (bow loops): 22 dcs in one loop, slst into middle, 22 dcs in the other loop, slst to join.

Round 3 (bow legs): *From middle, ch 9. Hdc in 2nd ch from hook. Hdc in each ch (8  total), slst back into middle.* Rep ** to make the other leg.

Round 4 (bow tie): Pull up the loop on the hook, then take the loop off. Flip bow over and insert hook into middle slsts. Pull the loop through to the back of the work; tighten on hook. Ch 7. Hdc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc across (6 stitches total). Wrap the row around the front of the bow to meet the last hdc in the back. Insert hook into the edge of the lst hdc and slst to join. 

Cut yarn & tie off. Weave in ends.

To make the square:

With color B (white), make a slip knot.

Round 1:

Top of square: Count 9 sts away from the center of the bow on the right loop.

Insert hook into the 9th st and ch 2, dc in the same st, dc into next st, dc2tog, dc2tog, tr, trtr around the bow tie in the middle, sk next 2 sts on the left loop, tr in 3rd st from middle, dc2tog, dc2tog, dc.

Corner setup: 2dc, ch 1, 2dc in next st. Rotate clockwise to continue onto the side of the bow.

Side of square: Dc in next st, dc2tog, dc 2, tr 2, dtr.

Insert hook into the top of the first hdc in the left bow leg, dc 2.

Insert hook into the edge of the 1st hdc in the left bow leg, make corner (2dc, ch 1, 2dc). Rotate work clockwise to work into the bottom of the bow.

Bottom of square: Dc in next st, dc2tog, tr 2, sk 2, trtr into the middle loop of the bow (mirroring the top row), sk 2,  tr 2, dc2tog, dc.

Make corner space in edge of hdc (2dc, ch 1, 2 dc). Rotate work clockwise.

Side of square: Dc into the top of the hdc. Count 8 sts back from the first ch2 of the round, insert hook into the 8th st, dtr, tr 2, dc 2, dc2tog, dc.

Last corner space setup: 2dc, ch 1 in the same st as the first ch. Slst to top of 1st ch to join.

Round 2: Ch 2, *dc in each st to corner, in corner space (2c, ch 1, 2dc).* Rep ** to the last corner. Slst into 1st dc to join.

Cut yarn and tie off. Weave in ends.

To make the ruffle border:

With color A, start in one corner space. Insert hook into corner space and ch 2. 2 dc in corner. 3 dc in each st and corner space around, until you reach the corner space where you started. Slst to join.

Cut yarn and tie off. Weave in ends.

To join the squares together:

Place wrong sides facing each other. Make sure bows and ruffles are both facing in the right direction.

Using either color A or B and a yarn needle, stitch into the base of each 3 dc cluster until you reach the end of the edge.

Cut yarn & tie off. Weave in ends.
