Free Crochet Pattern: c2c Candy Corn Hot Pad

Hello everyone!

Continuing the festive Halloween theme I’ve got going on for October, I’d like to introduce you to another free hot pad (potholder, trivet – whatever you wanna call it) pattern!

I’m a sucker for practical decorations and quick projects. As I mentioned a few posts ago, I bought a few skeins of Lion Brand Re-Up yarn and a skein of Lily Sugar n Cream in Halloween-ish colors. So obviously I had to make another potholder! This time, I went for a candy corn inspired look.

This potholder only uses three different colors, so to make it a bit more interesting, I decided to try out corner to corner crochet! Let me tell you, I LOVE IT. I love c2c. It’s amazing. It looks so pretty and you can make graphs to follow for different designs and patterns. Ugh. I just love it. I think you’ll love it too if you haven’t tried it before.

Check out Make and Do Crew’s c2c tutorial – I used it to learn and it’s a great resource. Super informative and easy to understand!

This pattern is a great beginner-friendly introduction to c2c. It looks intimidating, but it’s so easy and works up really fast!

Note: I broke my skeins up to work double stranded by making a ball from about half the skein.

Make two hot pad panels following the instructions below:

Rows 1-5 = yellow; 6-10 = orange; 11-15 = white

Row 1: Ch 6, dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in each of next 2 chs, turn. (1 block)

Row 2: Ch 6, dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in each of next 2 chs, (slst into ch-3 sp, ch 3, 3 dc) in ch-3 space, turn. (2 blocks)

Row 3-8: Ch 6, dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in each of next 2 chs, (slst into ch-3 sp, ch 3, 3 dc) in each ch-3 space across, turn.

* note – row 6 switch to orange

Row 9-15: Slst in each dc across to next ch-3 sp, (sl st, ch 3, 3 dc) in each ch-3 sp across to last ch-3 sp, sl st, turn.

*note – row 11 switch to white

Tie off yarn. Place wrong sides/your least favorite sides together and SC border in color of your choice held double (I chose orange), seaming each panel together. Optional – ch 8 for a loop to hang potholder with.

I hope you enjoy this pattern! If you have any questions or comments, please don’t hesitate to let me know! 🙂

Happy crocheting!
