This free crochet pattern transforms your goose into the cutest little cauldron, ready for both Fall and Halloween trick or treaters. Materials Needed:
- Size 5.0 mm crochet hook (I use these and these glitter hooks – they’re awesome!)
- 1 skein (198g / 7 oz, 333 meters / 364 yards) of Redheart Super Saver in black or medium weight yarn of your choice, half a skein of medium weight green yarn
- Scissors
- Yarn needle
- Fiber Fill
Finished Measurements:
- Dress Length: about 12″
- Dress Width: about 17″ at widest, 11.5″ at brim and bottom, 4.5″ at neck
- Hat Length: 4″
- Hat Width: 6″
- Hat Ties: 8″
- Small bubble: about 2.5″
- Medium bubble: about 3.75″
- Large bubble: about 5″
- Note: Outfit designed to fit 23″ porch goose.
Gauge:
- 2″ x 2″: 6 sc sts x 8 rows
- 4″ x 4″: 12 dc sts x 8 rows
- You may have to go up or down a hook size to obtain finished measurements. I recommend maintaining semi-loose/medium tension throughout.

- This pattern was designed to fit a 23″ goose.

- sk = skip
- sc = single crochet

Cauldron:
Note: Ch 2 does not count as a st.
With green or color A, make a slip knot, insert hook, ch 31. Slst into 1st ch to make a loop.
Round 1: ch 2, (dc 1 ch, 2dc in next ch), rep () to end of round, slst into the top of ch 2. (45)
Round 2: ch 2, (dc 2 sts, 2dc in next st), rep () to end of round, slst into the top of ch 2. (60)
Round 3: ch 2, (dc 3 sts, 2dc in next st), rep () to end of round, slst into the top of ch 2. (75)
Round 4: ch 2, dc around, slst into the top of ch 2. (75)
Round 5: ch 2, (dc 4 sts, 2dc in next st), rep () to end of round, slst into the top of ch 2. (90)
Round 6: ch 2, dc around, slst into the top of ch 2. (90) Switch to black at end of round.
Round 7: ch 2, dc flo around, slst into the top of ch 2. (90)
Round 8: ch 2, dc around, slst into the top of ch 2. (90)
Round 9: ch 2, dc around, slst into the top of ch 2. (90)
Round 10: ch 2, dc around, slst into the top of ch 2. (90)
Round 11: Fold rows 7-10 in half, towards the wrong side of the work, so that the top of round 10 aligns with the back loops of round 6. This round will be stitched through both the sts in round 10 and the back loops of round 6, as shown below. Ch 2, dc around, slst into top of ch 2. (90)
Round 12: ch 2, (dc 8, 2dc in next), rep () to end of round, slst into the top of ch 2. (100)
Round 13: ch 2, (dc 9, 2dc in next st), rep () to end of round, slst into the top of ch 2. (110)
Round 14: ch 2, (dc 10, 2dc in next st), rep () to end of round, slst into the top of ch 2. (120)
Round 15-25: ch 2, dc around, slst into the top of ch 2. (120)
Round 26: ch 2, (dc 2, dc2tog), rep () to end of round, slst into the top of ch 2. (90)
Round 27: ch 2, (dc 1, dc2tog), rep () to end of round, slst into the top of ch 2. (60)
Round 28: ch 2, (dc 1, dc2tog), rep () to end of round, slst into the top of ch 2. (40)
Tie off yarn, weave in ends.
Bubbles:
Large –
Make 3 (2 for cauldron, 1 for hat).
With green, make a magic ring.
Round 1: in ring, ch 1, make 10 sc, pullto tighten, slst into ch 1. (10)
Round 2: ch 1, 2sc in each st around, slst into ch 1. (20)
Round 3: ch 1, (sc 3, 2sc in next), rep () to end of round, slst into ch 1. (25)
Round 4-8: ch 1, sc in each st around, slst into ch 1. (25)
Medium –
Make 6 (4 for cauldron, 2 for hat).
With green, make a magic ring.
Round 1: in ring, ch 1, make 10 sc, pullto tighten, slst into ch 1. (10)
Round 2: ch 1, 2sc in each st around, slst into ch 1. (20)
Round 3-5: ch 1, sc in each st around, slst into ch 1. (20)
Tie off, leaving a long tail to sew to cauldron.
Small –
Make 14 (8 for cauldron, 6 for hat).
With green, make a magic ring.
Round 1: in ring, ch 1, make 10 sc, pull to tighten, slst into ch 1. (10)
Round 2-3: ch 1, dc in each st around, slst into ch 1. (10)
Tie off, leaving a long tail to sew to cauldron.
Once all bubbles have been made, arrange around cauldron and hat to your preference. I arranged mine as shown below. Weave in ends.
Hat:
Note: ch 1 does not count as a stitch.With green, make a magic ring.
Round 1: In ring, ch 1, 10 sc, slst into ch 1 to join. (10)
Round 2: ch 1, 2 sc in each st around, slst into ch 1. (20)
Round 3: ch 1, sc around, slst into ch 1. (20)
Round 4: ch 1, (sc, 2sc in next st), rep () around, slst into ch 1. (30)
Round 5: ch 1, sc around, slst into ch 1. (30)
-Switch to rows-
Row 6: ch 1, sc 20, ch 1, turn. (20) This row is the set up for the back of the hood. The 10 stitch gap is the front of the hood.
Row 7: sc in each st across, ch 1, turn (20)
Row 8: sk 1st sc, sc across to last 2, sc2tog, ch 1, turn (18)
Row 9-13: sc across, ch 1, turn (18)
Row 14: sc across, ch 1. (18)
Once hat is made, sew bubbles to hat as shown below or to your preference. Weave in ends.
