If you’ve been looking for a way to give your porch goose a little extra personality, you’re in the right place. This free crochet pattern transforms your goose into the cutest little mummy, ready for Halloween trick or treaters. It’s the perfect quick project to brighten up your porch, entryway, or school goose mascot!
Whether you’re dressing your goose for spooky season, adding a whimsical touch to your collection, or just want a fun weekend make, this mummy outfit is an easy and quick project to spruce up your goose.

Materials Needed:
- Size 5.0 mm crochet hook (I use these and these glitter hooks – they’re awesome!)
- 1 skein (198g / 7 oz, 333 meters / 364 yards) of Redheart Super Saver in cream (or color A of your choice) and oatmeal (or color B of your choice)
- Scissors
- Yarn needle
Finished Measurements:
- Dress Length: about 20.5″ from top of head to bottom of dress
- Dress Width: about 13″ at bottom, 9.5″ torso middle, and 4″ at neck
- Bandages: about 2 yards each
- Note: Outfit designed to fit 23″ porch goose.
Gauge:
- 2″ x 2″: 6 sc sts x 8 rows
- 4″ x 4″: 12 dc sts x 8 rows
- You may have to go up or down a hook size to obtain finished measurements. I recommend maintaining semi-loose/medium tension throughout.

Mummy Dress:
Note: ch 1 does not count as a stitch.
With cream (or color A), make a magic ring.
Round 1: In ring, ch 1, 10 sc, slst into ch 1 to join. (10)
Round 2: ch 1, 2 sc in each st around, slst into ch 1. (20)
Round 3: ch 1, sc around, slst into ch 1. (20)
Round 4: ch 1, (sc, 2sc in next st), rep () around, slst into ch 1. (30)
Round 5: ch 1, sc around, slst into ch 1. (30)
-Switch to rows-
Row 6: ch 1, sc 20, ch 1, turn. (20) This row is the set up for the back of the hood. The 10 stitch gap is the front of the hood.
Row 7: sc in each st across, ch 1, turn (20)
Row 8: sk 1st sc, sc across to last 2, sc2tog, ch 1, turn (18)
Row 9-13: sc across, ch 1, turn (18)
-switch back to rounds-
Round 14: sc across, ch 7, slst into 1st sc to join and resume working in rounds. (25)
Note: ch 2 counts as a st for the remainder of the dress pattern.
Round 15-18: ch 2, dc in each st around, slst into top of ch 2. (25)
Round 19: ch 2, 2 dc in next st, dc in each st around, slst into top of ch 2. (26)
Round 20: ch 2, 2 dc in next st, dc in each st around, slst into top of ch 2. (27)
Round 21: ch 2, 2 dc in next st, dc in each st around, slst into top of ch 2. (28)

Round 35-37: ch 2, dc in each st around, slst into top of ch 2. (70)
Round 38: ch 2, dc 5, 2dc in next st. (Dc 6, 2dc in next st), rep () around, slst into top of ch 2. (80)
Round 39-43: ch 2, dc in each st around, slst into top of ch 2. (80)
Round 44: scallop edge row – (Sk 2, 5dc in next st, sk 2, slst), rep () around. Slst last 2, slst to join. Tie off, weave in ends.
Bandages:
Make 3.
Note: If you want your mummy to have extra coverage, make an extra bandage or two. 3 bandages is designed to look like the wrapping is coming undone.
With oatmeal (or color B), make a slip knot, ch 302.
Row 1: Dc in 3rd ch from hook. Dc in each ch across. Ch 2, turn.
Row 2: dc across, tie off yarn.
Once all three bandages pieces are finished, it’s time to wrap your mummy! I put the dress piece on my goose and wrapped each bandage around one by one starting with the head. One bandage should be enough to cover the head and neck, and two should be used to cover the body. I also left the ends of each wrap sticking out to give the appearance of coming undone, as shown below.
Get creative with this part! Once your bandages have been arranged, use your yarn needle to attach the bandages to the dress. I placed stitches randomly so that some bandage positions could still be adjusted, and stitched everywhere bandages overlapped.
