This free crochet pattern transforms your goose into the cutest little pumpkin, or a jack-o-lantern with a removable face, ready for both Fall and Halloween trick or treaters. It’s the perfect quick project to brighten up your porch, entryway, or school goose mascot!

Materials Needed:
- Size 5.0 mm crochet hook (I use these and these glitter hooks – they’re awesome!)
- 1 skein (198g / 7 oz, 333 meters / 364 yards) of Redheart Super Saver in orange (or color A of your choice), and scraps of brown (or color b of your choice), green (or color c of your choice), and black
- Fiber Fill
- Scissors
- Yarn needle
- Buttons
Finished Measurements:
- Body Panel Length: 11.5″
- Body Panel Width: 1″ narrowest, 4.5″ middle, 2.5″ bottom
- Assembled Body Length: 11.5″
- Assembled Body Width: 15″
- Jack-o-lantern Face:
- Triangle Eyes: about 2.5″
- Mouth Length: about 8″
- Nose: about 1.5″
- Oval Eyes: 2″ length, 1.5″ width
- Hat: about 4″ around, 1.5″ height (stuffed)
- Stem: about 1.75″ length
- Leaf: 2″ length, 2.5″ width
- Vine: about 4″ length
- Note: Outfit designed to fit 23″ porch goose.
Gauge:
- 2″ x 2″: 6 sc sts x 8 rows
- 4″ x 4″: 12 dc sts x 8 rows
- 4″ x 4″: 12 hdc sts x 10.5 rows
- You may have to go up or down a hook size to obtain finished measurements. I recommend maintaining semi-loose/medium tension throughout.

Pumpkin Body:
Make 10 panels.
Using orange, make a slip knot, ch 4.
Row 1: hdc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc across, ch 1, turn. (3)
Row 2: hdc in each st across, ch 1, turn. (3)
Row 3: hdc 1, 2hdc in middle st, hdc last st, ch 1, turn. (4)
Row 4: hdc in each st across, ch 1, turn. (4)
Row 5: hdc 1, 2hdc in middle sts, hdc last st, ch 1, turn. (6)
Row 6: hdc in each st across, ch 1, turn. (6)
Row 7: hdc 2, 2hdc in next 2 sts, hdc remaining 2, ch 1, turn. (8)
Row 8-10: hdc in each st across, ch 1, turn. (8)
Row 11: hdc 3, 2hdc in next 2 sts, hdc remaining 3, ch 1, turn. (10)
Row 12: hdc in each st across, ch 1, turn. (10)
Row 13: hdc 4, 2hdc in next 2 sts, hdc remaining 4, ch 1, turn. (12)

Row 20: hdc in each st across, ch 1, turn. (12)
Row 21: hdc2tog, hdc across to last 2 sts, hdc2tog, ch 1, turn. (10)
Row 22: hdc in each st across, ch 1, turn. (10)
Row 23: hdc2tog, hdc across to last 2 sts, hdc2tog, ch 1, turn. (8)
Row 24- 30: hdc in each st across, ch 1, turn. (8)
Tie off yarn at the end of row 30.
To join panels, line up edges of panels as shown below and single crochet in each row.
Make sure to keep the single crochet seams on the inside of the pumpkin. Once all panels have been joined, line up the remaining panel edges and single crochet together. Tie off yarn, weave in all ends.
To finish the neck of the pumpkin, insert hook into a single crochet in any of the panels. Pull up a loop, ch 1, sc in each st around, slst into ch 1 to join. (30 sts)
Repeat on the bottom (80 sts).
Pumpkin Hat:
Base:
Note: ch 2 does not count as a st.
With orange, make a magic ring.
Round 1: In ring, ch 2, then make 12 dc sts, pull to tighten, slst into top of ch 2. (12)
Round 2: ch 2, 2dc in each st around, slst into top of ch 2. (24)
Round 3: ch 2, 2dc in each st around, slst into top of ch 2. (48)
Round 4: ch 2, dc blo around, slst into top of ch 2. (48)
Round 5: ch 2, dc2tog around, slst into top of ch 2. (24)
Round 6: ch 2, dc blo around, slst into top of ch 2. (24)
Round 7: ch 2, dc2tog around, slst into top of ch 2. (12)
Note: Stuff with a small amount of fiber fill before round 8. Be careful not to over fill and create gaps.
Round 8: ch 2, dc2tog around, slst into top of ch 2. (6)
Tie off yarn, leaving a tail to cinch the remaining sts closed. Weave in ends.
To make the hat ties, insert hook in any front loop from round 6. Using orange, pull up a loop and ch 30. Tie off yarn. Repeat on the opposite side of the hat.
Stem:
With brown, make a slip knot, ch 7.
Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc 3 chs, slst last 2 chs, ch 1, turn. (6)
Row 2: slst blo 2, sc blo 4, ch 1, turn. (6)
Row 3: sc blo 4, slst blo last 2, ch 1, turn. (6)
Rep rows 2 and 3 until you have 12 rows total.
Seam 1st row edge and the edge of row 12 together. Tie off yarn, leaving a long tail to sew to hat.
Attach stem to the center of the base of the hat. Weave in ends.
Leaf:
With green, make a magic ring.
Round 1: in ring, ch 1, make 10 sc, pull to tighten, slst into ch 1. (10)
Round 2: ch 2, dc next 2 sts, ch 2, slst, ch 2, dc next 3, ch 2, slst, ch 2, dc 2, ch 2, slst in last st.
Round 3: slst into both chs in ch 2 from previous round, slst next 2 dcs, ch 2, slst into next 4 chs, slst next 2 dcs, ch 2, slst into next dc, slst next 4 chs, slst next dc, ch 2, slst last dc, slst last 2 chs.
Tie off yarn, sew to pumpkin hat next to stem.
Curly vine:
With green, make a slip knot, insert hook, ch 21. Make 3 sc in 2nd ch from hook, make 3 sc in each ch across. Tie off yarn, attach to pumpkin hat next to leaf and stem.
Jack-o-lantern Face:
Triangle Eyes:
Make 2.
With black, make a magic ring.
Round 1: in ring, ch 1, make 10 sc, pull to tighten, slst into ch 1. (10)
Round 2: ch 1, 2sc in each st around, slst into ch 1. (20)
Round 3: slst, sc, hdc, *dc, ch 1, dc* in next st, hdc, sc, slst next 2, sc, hdc, *dc, ch 1, dc* in next st, hdc, sc, slst next 2, sc, hdc, *dc, ch 1, dc* in next st, hdc, sc, slst.
Tie off yarn, weave in ends.
Nose:
With black, make a magic ring.
Round 1: in ring, ch 1, make 12 sc, pull to tighten, slst into ch 1. (12)
Round 2: do not ch 1; sc in next st, *hdc, ch 1, hdc* in next st, sc, slst, sc, *hdc, ch 1, hdc* in next st, sc, slst, sc, *hdc, ch 1, hdc* in next st, sc, slst.
Tie off yarn, weave in ends.
Mouth:
With black, make a slip knot, ch 31. Slst in 2nd ch from hook, slst, sc 2, hdc 2, dc 8, ch 2, slst next 2, ch 2, dc 8, hdc 2, sc 2, slst 2. Rotate so that you’re working in the bottom side of the row. Slst 2, sc 2, hdc 2, dc 2, ch 2, slst 2, ch 2, dc 2, dc2tog x3, dc 2, ch 2, slst 2, ch 2, dc 2, hdc 2, sc 2, slst 2.
Oval Eyes:
Make 2.
With black, make a magic ring.
Round 1: in ring, ch 1, make 10 sc, pull to tighten, slst into ch 1. (10)
Round 2: ch 2, 2dc in next 2 sts, sc 3, 2dc in next 2 sts, sc 3, slst into bottom ch of ch 2.
Once all face pieces have been made, use black thread or yarn and a beading needle to attach buttons to the back side of the eyes. This will allow you to mix and match expressions.
