This free crochet pattern transforms your goose into the cutest little sunflower, ready for the end of summer and the beginning of the fall season. It’s the perfect quick project to brighten up your porch, entryway, or school goose mascot!
Whether you’re dressing your goose for the summer-autumn transitional season, adding a whimsical touch to your collection, or just want a fun weekend make, this sunflower outfit is an easy and quick project to spruce up your goose.

Materials Needed:
- Size 5.0 mm crochet hook (I use these and these glitter hooks – they’re awesome!)
- 1 skein (198g / 7 oz, 333 meters / 364 yards) of Redheart Super Saver in green (I used Medium Thyme), and half skein yellow, and less than half skein brown
- Floral Wire (Optional)
- Scissors
- Yarn needle
Finished Measurements:
- Dress Width: about 13″ at bottom, 9.5″ torso middle, and 4″ at neck
- Dress Length: About 25″ from tip of petal to bottom of dress
- Flower (petals and center): About 10.5″ length and width
- Petals: About 3″ length, 1/2″ width
- Head Opening: About 3″
Gauge:
- 2″ x 2″: 6 sc sts x 8 rows
- 4″ x 4″: 12 dc sts x 8 rows
- You may have to go up or down a hook size to obtain finished measurements. I recommend maintaining medium tension throughout.
Pattern Notes:
- This pattern was designed to fit a 23″ goose.
- I did not use floral wire because I think floppy/curly/wiggly sunflower petals are cute, but feel free to support the petals using floral wire. Additionally, if you want straighter petals, you can steam the petals to make them lay flat.

Abbreviations (US):
- ch = chain
- sk = skip
- flo = front loop only
- blo = back loop only
- sc = single crochet
- hdc = half double crochet
- dc = double crochet
- dc2tog = double crochet two stitches together
- st(s) = stitch(es)
- slst = slip stitch
- rep = repeat
Pattern:
Note: Ch sts at beginning of rounds count as a st.
With brown, make a slip knot, ch 35. Slst into 1st ch to make a ring.
Round 1: ch 1, sc in each ch around, slst into ch 1. (30)
Round 2: ch 2, dc flo, 2dc flo, (dc flo next 2, 2dc flo), rep () to end of round, slst into top of ch 2. (40)
Round 3: ch 2, dc 2, 2dc, (dc next 3, 2dc), rep () to end of round, slst into top of ch 2. (50)
Switch to yellow at end of round 3.
Round 4: (ch 11, working into ch – slst in 2nd ch from hook, sc, hdc, dc in next 6 chs, sc in last ch, slst flo next 2 sts in round), rep () to end of round. Do not ch 11 at end of round. (25 petals)
Round 5: ch 1, sc blo in the back loops of round 3 around, slst into ch 1. (50)
Round 6: ch 1, slst flo, (ch 11, working into ch – slst in 2nd ch from hook, sc, hdc, dc in next 6 chs, sc in last ch, slst flo next 2 sts in round), rep () to end of round, slst into ch 1. (25 petals)
Round 7: ch 2, dc blo in back loops of round 5 around, slst into the top of ch 2. (50) Switch to green at the end of round 7.
Round 8: ch 2, dc2tog around, dc last st, slst into the top of ch 2. (26)
Round 9-18: ch 2, dc around, slst into the top of ch 2. (26)
Round 19: ch 2, 2dc in next st, dc in remaining sts around, slst into the top of ch 2. (27)
Round 20: ch 2, 2 dc in next st, dc in each st around, slst into top of ch 2. (28)
Round 21: ch 2, 2 dc in next st, dc in each st around, slst into top of ch 2. (29)
Round 22: ch 2, 2 dc in next st, dc in each st around, slst into top of ch 2. (30)
Round 23: ch 2, dc in each st around, slst into top of ch 2. (30)
Round 24: ch 2, dc in each st around, slst into top of ch 2. (30)
Round 25: ch 2, dc in each st around, slst into top of ch 2. (30)

Round 29: ch 2, dc in each st around, slst into top of ch 2. (50)
Round 30: ch 2, dc 3, 2dc in next st. (Dc 4, 2dc in next st), rep () around, slst into top of ch 2. (60)
Round 31-33: ch 2, dc in each st around, slst into top of ch 2. (60)
Round 34: ch 2, dc 4, 2dc in next st. (Dc 5, 2dc in next st), rep () around, slst into top of ch 2. (70)
Round 35-37: ch 2, dc in each st around, slst into top of ch 2. (70)
Round 38: ch 2, dc 5, 2dc in next st. (Dc 6, 2dc in next st), rep () around, slst into top of ch 2. (80)
Round 39-43: ch 2, dc in each st around, slst into top of ch 2. (80)
Round 44: scallop edge row – (Sk 2, 5dc in next st, sk 2, slst), rep () around. Slst last 2, slst to join. Tie off, weave in ends.
