Spooky season is over, and it’s officially Little Debbie Christmas Tree Cake season! I look forward to these things popping up on shelves all year. They’re my favorite (next to the pumpkin faces that are out in the fall!), so this pattern is for my fellow Christmas Tree Cake lovers.Β
This pattern is so quick because each car coaster measures about 2.5 inches, which fits most standard car cup holders, but also because the only stitches are chains and single crochets. Itβs perfect for crafters working in the round for the first time, or even to practice working with increases and decreases for shaping appliques.

Materials Needed:
- Size 4.5 mm crochet hook (I use these and these glitter hooks β theyβre awesome!)
- 1 ball each (71g / 2.5 oz, 109 meters / 120 yards) ofΒ Lily Sugar N CreamΒ in Dark Pine, Mod Green, Red, and White (or any colors youβd like!) or similar worsted weight/weight 4 category yarn
- Scissors
- Yarn needle

Gauge:
Gauge isnβt super important for this project; you may have to go up or down a hook size to obtain finished measurements.
Pattern Notes:
- The colors can be customized; feel free to choose whatever colors you want!
- These were designed to fit my 2019 Nissan Sentra cup holders, but if you need to make them bigger, just add an additional round to the base.
Stitches Used:
- Single Crochet
- Slip Stitch
- Chain
Abbreviations (US):
- ch = chain
- sc = single crochet
- st(s) = stitch(es)
- slst = slip stitch
- rep = repeat
- sc2tog = single crochet 2 stitches together
- sc3tog = single crochet 3 stitches together
Pattern:
Coaster base (make 2): With mod green, make a magic ring, ch 1, 6 sc in ring. Slst into 1st sc to join. Tighten ring. (6 sts)
Round 2: Sc in the same st that the ch 1 came from; 2 sc in each st around, 1 sc in last st. Slst into 1st sc to join. (12 sts)
Round 3: Ch 1. Sc in the same st that the ch 1 came from; 2 sc in each st around, 1 sc in last st. Slst into 1st sc. (24 sts)
Round 4: Ch 1. Sc in the same st that the ch 1 came from; 1 sc in each st around. Slst into 1st sc. (25 sts)Round 5: Ch 1. Rep round 4. Do not ch 1 at end of round; tie off yarn and weave in ends. (26 sts)
Christmas Tree:
With white, ch 4.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook. Sc in next 2, ch 3, turn.
Row 2: Slst in 2nd ch from hook, slst across, ch 3, turn. (note: this row builds the wider tree bottom)
Row 3: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc across, ch 1, turn.
Row 4: Sc2tog, sc next 3, sc2tog, ch 1, turn.
Row 5: Sc across, ch 1, turn.
Row 6: Sc2tog, sc 1, sc2tog, ch 1, turn.
Row 7: Sc across, ch 1, turn.
Row 8: Sc3tog. Tie off yarn, leaving a long tail to attach to coaster base.
Using a tapestry needle and the yarn tail mentioned above, sew the tree to the coaster base. Tie off and cut extra length; I usually hide the ends between the sewn-on object and the base.
With red and a tapestry needle, sew wavy lines across the tree (as seen below) to make the icing on the Christmas Tree Cake.
With dark pine, sew short stitches randomly on the tree (as seen below) to make the sprinkles.
