This free crochet pattern transforms your goose into the cutest little ladybug, complete with legs and cute spots. Materials Needed:

Finished Measurements:

  • Height: about 10.5″
  • Width: about 13″
    • Note: Outfit designed to fit 23″ porch goose.

Gauge:

  • Varies for this project.
  • You may have to go up or down a hook size to obtain finished measurements. I recommend maintaining semi-loose/medium tension throughout.

Pattern Notes:

  • This pattern was designed to fit a 23″ goose.

  • Single Crochet
  • Single Crochet Increase
  • Double Crochet
  • Double Crochet Increase
  • Slip Stitch
  • Chain

Abbreviations (US):

  • ch = chain
  • sc = single crochet
  • dc = double crochet
  • st(s) = stitch(es)
  • slst = slip stitch
  • rep = repeat

Pattern:

Dress Base:

Ch counts as a st.

With black, ch 30, slst into 1st ch to join.

Round 1: ch 2, dc in each st around, slst into top of ch 2. (30)

Round 2: ch 2, dc in each st around, slst into top of ch 2. (30)

Round 3: ch 2, dc, 2dc in next st. (Dc 2, 2dc in next st), rep () around, slst into top of ch 2. (40)

Round 4: ch 2, dc in each st around, slst into top of ch 2. (40)

Round 5: ch 2, dc 2, 2dc in next st. (Dc 3, 2dc in next st), rep () around, slst into top of ch 2. (50)

Round 6: ch 2, dc in each st around, slst into top of ch 2. (50)

Round 7: ch 2, dc 3, 2dc in next st. (Dc 4, 2dc in next st), rep () around, slst into top of ch 2. (60)

Round 8-10: ch 2, dc in each st around, slst into top of ch 2. (60)

Round 11: ch 2, dc 4, 2dc in next st. (Dc 5, 2dc in next st), rep () around, slst into top of ch 2. (70)

Round 12-14: ch 2, dc in each st around, slst into top of ch 2. (70)

Round 15: ch 2, dc 5, 2dc in next st. (Dc 6, 2dc in next st), rep () around, slst into top of ch 2. (80)

Round 16-20: ch 2, dc in each st around, slst into top of ch 2. (80)

Round 21: scallop edge row – (Sk 2, 5dc in next st, sk 2, slst), rep () around. Slst last 2, slst to join. Tie off, weave in ends.

Legs:

Make 6

Ch counts as a st.

With black, make a slipknot leaving a long tail, and ch 8. Slst into 1st ch to make a loop.

Round 1: ch 1, sc around, slst into ch 1. (8)

Round 2-14: ch 1, sc around, slst into ch 1. (8)

Round 15: ch 1, sc2tog three times, sc last st, slst into ch 1. (5)

Tie off yarn, leaving a tail. Sew tail through the sts in round 15, then pull to cinch shut, weave in ends.

Wings:

Make 2.

Ch does not count as a st.

With red, make a magic ring.

Row 1: In ring, ch 2, dc 8; do not join. ch 2, turn. (8) note: stitches should be flat with a straight edge as opposed to a circle.

Row 2: dc 3, 2dc in next 2 sts, dc 3, ch 2, turn. (10)

Row 3: 2dc in each st, ch 2, turn. (20)

Row 4: dc across, ch 2, turn. (20)

Row 5: (dc, 2dc in next st), rep () ch 2, turn. (30)

Row 6: dc across, ch 2, turn. (30)

Row 7: (dc 2, 2dc in next), rep () around, ch 2, turn. (40)

Row 8: dc across, ch 2, turn. (40)

Row 9: (dc 3, 2dc in next), rep () around, ch 2, turn. (50)

Row 10: dc across, ch 2, turn. (50) Tie off, leaving a tail to attach to dress.

Wing Spots:

Small – Make 10

With black, make a magic ring. In ring, ch 1, 10 sc, slst into ch 1 to join. Tie off. Leave tails to attach each spot to the wings.

Big spots – make 4

With black, make a magic ring.

Round 1: In ring, ch 1, 10 sc, slst into ch 1 to join. (10)

Round 2: Ch 1, 2sc in each st around. Slst into ch 1. (20) Tie off. Leave tails to attach each spot to the wings.

Sew spots to wings, weave in ends.

Attach wings to the back of the dress as pictured.

Attach all 6 legs to the front of the dress as pictured.

Headband:

With black, ch 18, dc in 3rd ch from hook, dc across. (16) At the end of the row, insert hook into the middle of the last dc stitch, ch 31. Tie off.

Insert hook into the middle of the stitch at the other end of the row, ch 31. Tie off. Weave in ends.

Antennae:

Using black, ch 11, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc across. (10)

With white, insert hook into the ch at the end of the antenna opposite to where the tails are, pull up a loop. Make a bobble with 5 dcs. Tie off, weave in ends.

Tie antenna to headband on the 6th stitch in from either side of the headband, or spaced to your preference. Weave in ends.

Run floral wire or a black pipe cleaner through each to make them bendable and for support.
