This free crochet pattern transforms your goose into the cutest little princess, complete with a hennin hat and veil. Materials Needed:

Finished Measurements:

  • Height: about 10.5″
  • Width: about 13″
    • Note: Outfit designed to fit 23″ porch goose.

Gauge:

  • Varies for this project.
  • You may have to go up or down a hook size to obtain finished measurements. I recommend maintaining semi-loose/medium tension throughout.

Pattern Notes:

  • This pattern was designed to fit a 23″ goose.
  • Color A is the main color of the dress (baby pink in this pattern).
  • Color B is the contrasting bodice color (white in this pattern).
  • Color C is a trim color (dark pink in this pattern).
  • Color D is a trim color (gold in this pattern).

Abbreviations (US):

  • ch = chain
  • sc = single crochet
  • sc2tog = single crochet two stitches together
  • dc = double crochet
  • st(s) = stitch(es)
  • slst = slip stitch
  • rep = repeat

Pattern:

Bodice:

Ch counts as a stitch.

With color a, ch 30, slst into 1st ch to join.

Round 1: Ch 2, with color a, dc 19, switch to color b, 10 dc. Switch back to color a, slst into top of ch 2. (30)

Round 2: Ch 2, with color a, dc 19, switch to color b, 10 dc. Switch back to color a, slst into top of ch 2. (30)

Round 3: ch 2, dc, 2dc in next st, (dc 2, 2dc in next st), rep () up to color b section. In next st, 1 dc in color a, switch to color b, dc in same st. Rep () to the last color b st, 1 dc in color b, 1 dc in color a in next st. Slst into top of ch 2 to join. (40)

Round 4: ch 2, dc around following the same color split, slst into top of ch 2. (40)

Round 5: ch 2, dc 2, 2dc inc, (dc 3, 2dc in next st), rep () to color b section. In next st, 1 dc in color a, switch to color b, dc in same st. Rep () to last color b st, switch to color a, 2dc in last st. Slst into top of ch 2. (50)

Round 6-8: ch 2, dc around following the same color split, slst into top of ch 2. (50)

Round 9: with color a, ch 2, 3dc in each st around, slst into top of ch 2. (147)

Rounds 10-20: ch 2, dc in each st around, slst into top of ch 2. End row 20 by switching to color c. (147)

Round 21: with color c, ch 1, sc around, switch to color d, slst into ch 1. (147)

Round 22: with color d, (slst, dc) in each st around, slst. Tie off yarn, weave in ends.

Ruffle neck/bodice edge ruffle:

With color c, starting on the bottom right side of the dress bodice (round 8), insert hook around the post of the last white dc, and pull up a loop.

Ch2, 2dc around the post. 3dc around the post of the last color b dc in the next round up, rep 6 more times until you reach the neck of the dress, making 8 clusters total. 3dc in each st around the collar (total 20 reps).

Repeat 3dc clusters down the opposite side of the bodice. Tie off yarn, weave in ends.Using color d – start on the right side of bodice again; insert hook into top of ch 2, (slst, dc, slst) in each st around.

Tie off yarn, weave in ends.With color c, ch 200.

Tie off. Lace through every other ch 3 cluster as seen below.

Hennin Base:

With color A, ch 30, slst into 1st ch to make a ring.

Round 1-3: ch 1, sc around, slst into ch 1. (30) Round 4: ch 1, sc2tog, (sc, sc2tog), rep () around, slst into ch 1. (20)

Round 5-6: ch 1, sc around, slst into ch 1. (20) Round 7: ch 1, sc 1, sc2tog, (sc 2, sc2tog), rep () around, slst into ch 1. (15)

Round 8-10: ch 1, sc around, slst into ch 1. (15)

Round 11: ch 1, sc 2, sc2tog, (sc 3, sc2tog), rep () around, slst into ch 1. (12)

Round 12: ch 1, sc around, slst into ch 1. (12)

Round 13: ch 1, sc, sc2tog, (sc 2, sc2tog), rep () around, slst into ch 1. (9)

Round 14: ch 1, sc around, slst into ch 1. (9)

Round 15: ch 1, sc2tog, (sc, sc2tog), rep () around, slst into ch 1. (6)

Round 16: ch 1, sc around, slst into ch 1. (6)Tie off yarn.

Hennin edging:

With color c, insert hook in any stitch of round 1, pull up a loop, ch 1, sc around, slst into ch 1. (30)Tie off yarn.

With color b, insert hook on one side of henning, pull up a loop, ch 31. Repeat on opposite side of hennin to make ties.

With color d, insert hook anywhere in the first border round, pull up loop. ch1, (slst 1, dc 1), rep () to end. Slst. Tie off yarn, weave in ends.

Hennin bottom closure round:

With color a, make a magic ring.

Round 1: in ring, ch 1, sc 10. Slst into ch 1 to join. (10)

Round 2: ch 1, sc around, slst into ch 1. (10)

Round 3: ch 1, 2sc in each st around, slst into ch 1. (20)

Round 4: ch 1, sc around, slst into ch 1. (20)

Round 5: ch 1, (sc, 2sc in next st), rep () around, slst into ch 1. (30)

Tie off, leaving a long tail to attach to the bottom of the hennin.

Stuff with fiber fill to make hat stiff enough to support the veil. Sew bottom to the bottom of hennin, above the border edging rounds (round 1 of hennin), to enclose fiber fill.

Granny square hennin veil:

With color b, make a magic ring.

Round 1: Ch 2, 2dc, ch 2, 3dc, ch 2, 3dc, ch 2, 3 dc, ch 2. Slst into top of ch 2 to join.

Round 2: ch 2, turn. In ch 2 sp, 2dc, ch 2, (3dc, ch 2) in each ch 2 space. In each corner space, (3dc, ch 2, 3dc, ch2). Slst to join.

Repeat for 3 more rounds, 5 rounds total. Attach any corner of granny square to hennin point.

Weave in ends.
