Materials Needed:

Size 5.0 mm crochet hook (I use these and these glitter hooks – they’re awesome!)
1 skein (198g / 7 oz, 333 meters / 364 yards) of Redheart Super Saver in black (or color A of your choice), and orange (or color B of your choice)
Scissors
Yarn needle

Finished Measurements:

Cape Length: about 12.5″
Cape Width: about 12.5″ at widest, 4″ at neck
Bow: about 10″ length
Witch Hat: 5″ length, 7″ around base, 3.5″ width
Note: Outfit designed to fit 23″ porch goose.

Gauge:

2″ x 2″: 6 sc sts x 8 rows
4″ x 4″: 12 dc sts x 8 rows
4″ x 4″: 12 hdc sts x 10.5 rows
You may have to go up or down a hook size to obtain finished measurements. I recommend maintaining semi-loose/medium tension throughout.

Pattern:

Witch Cape:

With black or color A, ch 32.

Row 1: dc in 3rd ch from hook, dc in each ch, ch 2, turn. (30)

Row 2: dc in each st around, ch 2, turn. (30)

Row 3: (dc 2, 2dc in next st), rep () to end of row, ch 2, turn. (40)

Row 4: dc in each st around, ch 2, turn. (40)

Row 5: (dc 3, 2dc in next st), rep () to end of row, ch 2, turn. (50)

Row 6: dc in each st around, ch 2, turn. (50)

Row 7: (dc 4, 2dc in next st), rep () to end of row, ch 2, turn. (60)

Rows 8-10: dc in each st around, ch 2, turn. (60)

Row 11: (dc 5, 2dc in next st), rep () to end of row, ch 2, turn. (70)

Rows 12-14: dc in each st around, ch 2, turn.(70)

Row 15: (dc 6, 2dc in next st), rep () to end of row, ch 2, turn. (80)

Rows 16-20: dc in each st around, ch 2, turn. (80)

Row 21: sk 1, (5dc in next st, sk 2, slst, sk 2), rep () to end of row. Slst last st. Tie off, weave in ends.

Cape Tie:

Note: ch 2 counts as a st.

With orange or color B, insert hook into row 1 of the cape.

Round 1: ch 2, dc across, slst into top of ch 2 to join. (30)

Rounds 2-3: ch 2, dc around, slst into top of ch 2. (30)

Tie off yarn, weave in ends.

Bow:

With orange or color B, ch 122.

Row 1: insert hook into 3rd ch from hook, dc, dc across, ch 2, turn. (120)

Row 2: dc across, ch 2, turn. (120)

Row 3: dc across. (120)

Tie off yarn, weave in ends. Tie into a bow. Attach bow to center collar of cape.

Note, this makes a big bow – if you want a shorter bow, make fewer chains but follow directions otherwise.

Witch Hat:

With color b, ch 30, slst into 1st ch to make a ring.

Rounds 1-2: ch 1, sc around, slst into ch 1. (30) Switch to color A at end of round 2.

Round 3: ch 1, sc around, slst into ch 1. (30)

Round 4: ch 1, sc2tog, (sc, sc2tog), rep () around, slst into ch 1. (20)

Rounds 5-6: ch 1, sc around, slst into ch 1. (20)

Round 7: ch 1, sc 1, sc2tog, (sc 2, sc2tog), rep () around, slst into ch 1. (15)

Rounds 8-10: ch 1, sc around, slst into ch 1. (15)

Round 11: ch 1, sc 2, sc2tog, (sc 3, sc2tog), rep () around, slst into ch 1. (12)

Round 12: ch 1, sc around, slst into ch 1. (12)

Round 13: ch 1, sc, sc2tog, (sc 2, sc2tog), rep () around, slst into ch 1. (9)

To make the brim of the witch hat, insert hook into 1st ch in round 1.

Round 1: Using black (or color A) yarn, ch 2. (2dc in next st, dc), rep () until you reach ch 2. Slst into top of ch 2. (45)

Round 2: ch 2, dc, (2dc in next st, dc 2), rep () around, slst into top of ch 2. (60)

Tie off yarn, weave in ends.

To make the ties, insert hook on either side of the inside of the hat, between the brim and the body of the hat. Pull up a loop, ch 30. Tie off yarn. Repeat on opposite side. Weave in ends.
