Free Crochet Pattern: UFO Porch Goose Outfit

This free crochet pattern transforms your goose into the cutest little UFO, complete with a tractor beam and cow applique, ready for Halloween trick or treaters. It’s the perfect quick project to brighten up your porch, entryway, or school goose mascot!

Whether you’re dressing your goose for spooky season, adding a whimsical touch to your collection, or just want a fun weekend make, this UFO outfit is an easy and quick project to spruce up your goose.

I used Redheart glow in the dark yarn to make the tractor beam extra spooky, but that is optional. It’s a bit on the pricey side, but looks great and glows well, especially on a sunny porch.

Materials Needed:

Size 5.0 mm crochet hook (I use these and these glitter hooks – they’re awesome!)
5 balls of Redheart Super Glow Yarn or 1 skein (198g / 7 oz, 333 meters / 364 yards) of Redheart Super Saver in color of your choice, 1/2 skein of Redheart Super Saver in dark gray and light gray/silver, and scraps of black and white
Scissors
Yarn needle
Fiber Fill

Finished Measurements:

Tractor Beam Dress Length: about 20.5″ from top of head to bottom of dress
Tractor Beam Dress Width (measured flat): about 13″ at bottom, 9.5″ torso middle, and 4″ at neck
Cow: 3.5″ width, 2.25″ height
UFO: about 9″ length/width
- Note: Outfit designed to fit 23″ porch goose.

Gauge:

2″ x 2″: 6 sc sts x 8 rows
4″ x 4″: 12 dc sts x 8 rows
You may have to go up or down a hook size to obtain finished measurements. I recommend maintaining medium tension throughout.

Note: ch at beginning of round does not count as a st.

With silver, make a magic ring.

Round 1: in ring, ch 1, sc 10, pull to tighten. Slst into ch 1. (10)
Round 2: ch 1, 2sc in each st, slst into ch 1. (20)
Round 3: ch 1, sc in each st, slst into ch 1. (20)
Round 4: ch 1, sc in each st, slst into ch 1. (20)
Round 5: ch 1, (sc, 2sc in next st), rep () around, slst into ch 1. (30)
Round 6: ch 1, sc in each st, slst into ch 1. (30)
Round 7: ch 1, (sc 2, 2sc in next st), rep () around, slst into ch 1. (40)

With glow in the dark green, make a magic ring.

Row 6: ch 1, sc 22, ch 1, turn. (22) This row is the set up for the back of the hood. The 8 stitch gap is the front of the hood.

-switch back to rounds-

Round 14: sc 22, ch 5, slst into 1st sc to join and resume working in rounds. (27)

Note: ch 2 counts as a st for the remainder of the dress pattern.

Round 15: slst 13, ch 2, dc around to ch 2, slst into top of ch 2. (27) Note: dc sts should be made in the slsts from the beginning of the round. This is to move the seam where the rounds join to the back of the piece.
Round 16-18: ch 2, dc in each st around, slst into top of ch 2. (27)

Spots:

With black yarn and yarn needle, stitch spots on various parts of the cow body, as shown below. Add a black stitch at the end of each leg to resemble hooves.
