Another autumn crochet pattern coming at ya! I’ve been seeing little pumpkins all over Instagram and I HAD to try my hand at making some. They’re so cute and the perfect decoration to have up all season long, not just for Halloween!
These are extremely quick projects and they’re very simple, perfect for beginners. Both are good for learning to experiment with shaping!

Materials Needed
- Crochet hooks, sizes H/8 β 5.00 mm and 13 β 9.00mm
- Lion Brand Wool-Ease Yarn (or medium weight yarn of your choice) and a bulky weight yarn, such as Loops and Threads Cozy Wool
- Wine cork, cardboard, cinnamon sticks – anything you want for the stems!
- Scissors
- Cotton filling
- Glue gun & hot glue (optional)
Abbreviations (US)
- ch = chain
- dc = double crochet
- dc2tog = double crochet 2 together
- st(s) = stitch(es)
- slst = slip stitch

- Double Crochet
- Slip Stitch
- Double Crochet 2 Stitches Together
Pattern
Small Pumpkin:
Note: Leave a long tail in order to drawstring close the top and bottom of the pumpkin.
Ch 40. Join using slst.
Rounds 1-10: Ch 2. DC in next st. DC all sts in round until last st. Skip next st, slst into the top of the ch 2.
Round 11: Ch 2. DC next 2 tog. DC2tog until last 2 sts in round. DC in next st. Skip next st, slst into ch 2.
Tie off and weave tail of yarn through each st, and pull to tighten to your desired stem circumference.
Stuff the pumpkin with fluff and close the bottom in the same way the top was closed. Do not leave an opening on the bottom.
To make the pumpkin have ridges, wrap your tail around the pumpkin in 5 or 6 even sections. Tighten, tie off, and weave in ends.
Stick or glue your stem in and voila, you’re done!
Merlot Pumpkin:
Note: Leave a long tail in order to drawstring close the top and bottom of the pumpkin.
Ch 10.
Row 1: DC in the fourth chain from hook. Dc across. Ch 2, turn.
Row 2: 2 dc in 2nd st from hook. DC 2 sts in each st across until last st. Dc in last st. Ch 2, turn.
Row 3: Dc in 2nd st from hook. Dc across. Ch 2, turn.
Row 4: Dc in 2nd st from hook. Dc across. Ch 2, turn.
Row 5: Dc in 2nd st from hook. Dc across. Ch 2, turn.
Row 6: Dc2tog across until last st. Dc in last st. Ch 2, turn.
Repeat rows 2 to 6 four more times (pumpkin will have 5 ridges). If you want more ridges, add additional repeats of rows 2 to 6.
Tie off yarn. Seam ends together.
Weave yarn tail through each st and pull to tighten to the desired stem circumference on the top. Repeat on the bottom of the pumpkin and pull to tighten. Sew bottom closed. Tie off yarn & weave in ends.
