Free Knitting Pattern: Halloween Potholder!

HAPPY OFFICIAL AUTUMN! I’m a bit late since the autumn equinox was on Monday, but better late than never right?!

September and October are probably my busiest months of the entire year – so many birthdays and parties and events. It feels like I never have the time I need to do anything else! (But I’m also the kind of person who likes to be lazy and not do anything after work on weekdays ๐Ÿ˜ฉ) Despite this season being so busy, it’s my favorite time of year! Call me basic, but I love pumpkin spice, flannel, falling leaves, sweater weather, Halloween – it’s all so magical.

Inspiration

This past weekend I took a few days off work to celebrate my baby sister’s 16th birthday and had a lot of time to catch up on projects. It wasn’t as productive as I would have liked, but it was so much fun and I got to get in some quality time with my family! And I managed to design and work up a new Halloween potholder pattern!

This is the first knitting pattern I’m sharing with everyone and I’m so excited!!! Joann Fabrics had the BEST sale on Lion Brand Re-Up yarn over the weekend. Re-Up is recycled cotton yarn and it’s such a dream to work with. I’m in love! Luckily for me as I was shopping for Halloween-ish colors, Re-Up also comes in the perfect Halloween shades. I got orange, black, purple, green, and white. I couldn’t be happier with the results!

Pattern Notes

My Halloween potholder was made working stockinette stitch using two strands of orange and two strands of black on one side, and two strands of purple, black, and a tiny bit of white on the other side. The two pieces are sewn together using a single crochet border. It’s extra thick and perfect for grabbing hot pans out of the oven or being used as a trivet. It’s cute even just as a decoration hanging in your kitchen!

Note: I broke my skeins up to work double stranded by making a ball from about half the skein.

Finishing

The wonderful thing about sewing two pieces of fabric together – you don’t have to weave in ends! Make sure all loose ends are between the two pieces, and single crochet the pieces together.

I hope you enjoy this pattern! Please let me know if there are any questions or concerns!
