Hi everyone! Thanks for checking out the free knitting pattern for my Faux Fur Earwarmer design. Scroll down for the free pattern and design notes!
Around the holidays, I picked up a few skeins of Lion Brand Yarn Go For Faux from Joann Fabrics on sale. I was seeing a lot of projects on Instagram that incorporated faux fur, so I figured I would grab some to try it out!
I couldn’t find the time to make anything with it after I bought it, unfortunately. But I finally got my crap together and made a quick project over the weekend. And let me tell you, Go For Faux is amazing. I want to buy 8,000 more skeins because it’s so wonderful. It’s so soft and fluffy! And honestly, because it’s a super bulky yarn (weight 6), it knits up so fast.
I bought two skeins in the Baked Alaska colorway. It’s a vanilla toned off-white color. I LOVE IT. There are a ton of colors to choose from though, if off-white isn’t your thing. Click here to check out all the options!
This pattern is extremely easy and perfect for knitting beginners! I found that knitting in stockinette stitch gave me the best results in terms of stitch visibility with the needle size I used. I completed this whole project from cast-on to bind off AND sewing the ends together in about an hour while watching Netflix.

Materials Needed:
- Size US 17 – 12.75 mm knitting needles
- 1 (or 2, depending on head circumference) 100 gram/64 yard ball(s) of Lion Brand Yarn Go For Faux in Baked Alaska (or color of your choice!)
- Scissors
Finished Size:
19″ worked flat. To adjust the size for this pattern, measure the circumference of your head (or someone else’s) and subtract 3″. Repeat pattern until you reach the length of your measured circumference minus 3″.
Note: This pattern uses almost the entire skein of yarn – if you are making a larger size, you will need to purchase 2 skeins.
Abbreviations (US):
- k = knit
- p = purl
- b/o = bind off
- c/o = cast on
Stitches Used:
- Stockinette Stitch: alternating rows of knits and purls.
Pattern:
C/o 8 stitches.
Row 1: k all stitches.
Row 2: p all stitches.
Repeat rows 1 & 2 a total of 10 times, for a grand total of 20 rows.
Row 20: b/o purlwise.
To make the twist in the front of the earwarmer, you will need to fold the piece in half. Stagger the corners so they do not match perfectly.
You will need to sew the corners together so that they are interlocking. In the photo below, the pink corners meet and are sewn together so that they loop over the purple corners. The purple corners are then sewn together to interlock with the pink corner loop.
Since the yarn is so bulky, I used my fingers for this step, but you could use a crochet hook or a tapestry needle with a large eye.
I hope that you enjoy this pattern! I can’t wait to see the faux fur earwarmers you create! π Share your projects and questions with me on any of my social media.
